Summer in Japan is chef's kiss.
Hanabi festivals? Check. Beach trips? Check. Convenience store ice cream every other day? Guilty.
But let's be honest summer also has a sneaky way of making our wallets lose weight faster than we do. Between blasting the air conditioning, grabbing iced coffee after work, and saying "deserve ko 'to" every weekend, your salary can disappear before the next payday.
The good news? You don't have to become a certified kuripot to save money. Here are some simple ways to enjoy summer without making your bank account cry.
Before saying yes to every gala, ask yourself :
"Magkano lang ba ang kaya kong gastusin this month?"
Set aside money for :
Bills
Remittance
Savings
Summer fun
That way, you can enjoy guilt-free because your priorities are already covered.
We know... that iced latte after work feels like self-care.
But if you're spending ¥600 almost every day...
That's around ¥18,000 a month!
Try bringing your own coffee or cold tea a few times a week. Your future self (and your wallet) will thank you.
Let's face it—Japan's summer is no joke.
You don't have to suffer in the heat, but you can keep your electricity bill from reaching "plot twist" levels.
Set your AC to around 28°C
Use an electric fan to help circulate cool air
Close your curtains during peak sunlight
Clean your AC filter regularly
Comfortable ka na, tipid ka pa.
It's tempting to grab konbini meals every day because... convenience.
But even making lunch 2–3 times a week can save you thousands of yen every month.
Bonus : You get to eat your favorite ulam.
Japan has so many free things to enjoy.
Hanabi festivals
Parks
Local matsuri
Beach walks
Sunset picnics
The best memories aren't always the most expensive ones.
We've all been there.
"50% OFF? Sayang naman kung hindi ko bilhin!"
But here's a better question :
"Bibilhin ko ba 'to kung walang sale?"
If the answer is no... maybe leave it on the shelf.
Most OFWs have one goal in common—to build a better future for themselves and their families.
Enjoy your hard-earned money. You deserve it.
But remember: every smart financial decision you make today brings you one step closer to your goals—whether that's building savings, investing, or sending support back home.
Summer is meant to be enjoyed—not stressed over.
You don't have to say "no" to every gala, every iced coffee, or every weekend adventure. It's all about finding that sweet spot between living in the moment and planning for tomorrow.
After all, the best summer memories aren't measured by how much you spent—but by how much you enjoyed them.
Stay cool, spend smart, and make every yen count.
